Valencia Gravel Tour

This tour has been created to show you the hidden Valencia and utilises gravel roads, back roads and beautiful, lesser ridden tarmac to connect some of the best routes the Valencia region has to offer.  This painstakingly researched tour has been designed to create a unique journey through the Valencia region so you can experience some of its most beautiful landscapes and hidden villages.  It is the perfect challenge for the intermediate or experienced gravel rider.

Starting in the city of Elche within the Unesco World Heritage site of the Palmeral of Elche, this tour starts its way on the smooth gravel of the converted railway line, the Via Verde Agost-Maigmó, then heads inland via a series of gravel roads, back roads and some of the best hidden ashpalt, spending a further 4 nights in carefully chosen accommodation before joining the Via Verde Ojos Negros to finish just north of the city of Valencia.

This 6 night (5 ride) tour, is based in a differerent location each night, starting in wonderful 4 star hotel in Elche via country houses and rustic farmhouses to the finish line and another superb 4 star hotel to enjoy a celebratory gourmet experience.

The route is designed to show you the region's varying landscape from the arid landscape at the start of the north of Elche, through olive groves to the pine forests and vineyards, encountering hidden waterfalls before heading in to the dramatic montainous interior and ending with a descent through the famous orange groves surrounding the city Valencia.

Distances each day range from 70-115km with elevation gains of 1,000-1,700m, however the tour includes one epic day of 122km 2,200m (shorter and longer options are available if the group wishes). On average there are 30-40% of gravel roads each day.

Flights are not included.

Due to the nature of the trip, we may have to change the itinerarly in the case of bad weather or the condition of the surfaces.

The support car will be located at strategic locations along the route as much of the route is inaccessible by car.  

The route has been designed to make the most of best gravel roads in the area, however the condition of these can change and there are some sections which contain some more technical and steep climbs/descents.  

Gravel bike hire is not currently available, however the cost includes transport of bike bags/boxes from the start to the end of the trip.

The route is suitable for gravel bikes or hard tail mountain bikes. We would therefore recommend tyres of 45mm, set up tubeless and as easy gearing as you can get.  38T front chainring and a 11-42T rear cassette is suitable for this route.  Lights will be required as there are a number of unlit tunnels on the via verdes.
