Calpe - Xátiva - Macastre - Valencia

About the Event

This is a fully supported, place to place tour over 6 days, 5 nights. Starting in Calpe,  and finishing in the city of Valencia.   The tour can be extended by adding extra nights in Calpe before the start of the main tour.

We have painstakingly researched the province of Valencia finding what we believe are the best cycling roads that the area has to offer and have put together a challenging but rewarding route which is breathtakingly beautiful at every turn.

Enjoy your first night in Calpe, where most prossional teams base for their training camps, surrounded by the best climbs in the Costa Blanca. The following two nights further inland include overnight stays in the historic, Moorish town of Xàtiva and two nights in a rural location in Macastre. Then enjoy the opportunity to cycle in to Valencia on a carefully planned quiet route and celebrate the epic journey with a final night in Valencia. The following morning enjoy a ride into the Albufera Nationa park, the home of paella or take a day off to enjoy the wealth of culture the city has to offer before flying home.

Day 1 - 30-80km 500-1,500m - Arrive at the Gran Hotel Solymar, a superb 4 star hotel on the sea front in Calpe.  After setting up the bikes we will get out on afternoon ride along the coastline with the option of the infamous Cumbre del Sol, or the iconic Coll de Rates.  Alternatively we can just take it easy with a café ride to the picture perfect El Portet.

Day 2 - 125km 2,200m -  This route takes us into the Jalón Valley then up to Castells de Castells over the Beniaia road down the steep descent to Embalse de Beniarres where would plan to have lunch.  The route then heads through Salem, Beniatjar, passed Embassement de Belius, then the climb to Xàtiva through the town then up towards the castle where we are staying in the 4 star Hotel Mont Sant, a converted monastery on the castle wall. The hotel has a fantastic restaurant where we can choose from tapas to a full gastronomic menu*.

Day 3 - 95km 1,800m -  This stunning  stage of our Tour of Valencia takes us through the national park of Muela de Cortes to the small village of Dos Aguas for lunch. After lunch we head up the 5km Puerto Dos Aguas, one of the most visually spectacular climbs in the whole of the Valencia region.  We'll be staying just outside the small town of Macastre in Finca Mirador where we can relax by the pool before our evening meal on site.  This stage consists of many kilometres of uninterrupted narrow twist mountainous roads featured in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Volta Communitat de Valenciana with significant climbing.

Day 4 - 60-150km 600-2,200m - On our full day based out of Macastre we have a number of options including an out and back ride to the histroric town of Requena or an epic loop including the fantastic Chera-Chulilla road featured in the Volta Valencia if we decide on the shorter route to Valencia the following day.

Day 5 - 115-155km 800-1,900m -  For our ride to Valencia we have a number of options.   The epic option starts by heading west to Requena then through Chera and Chulilla which is a cyclist’s paradise - another narrow twisty road with fantastic lake views. The shorter option starts by heading north past the stunning Cueva de Turche then the orange groves and vinyards of this remote region of inland Valencia.  Both routes then make their way on the caminos until they reach the cycle path which takes us closer to Valencia, a few more caminos and we’re almost in Valencia where we join one of the Via Verdes to finish the ride into the centre of Spain’s third largest city.  Accommodation is in the excellent 5 star Hospes Palau de Mar in the city centre.  We will enjoy a meal out in one of the cities best restaurants.

Day 6 - 72-94m 200-500m - Before flying home, take time to enjoy the city or if you prefer we have a ride ready for you; a route south of the city to the rice fields of the Albufera National Park for a paella lunch before the flight home. A nice flat ride at the end of an epic tour. This stage could be extended by heading to the Cullera antennas featured on stage 6 of La Vuelta 2021 and stage 2 of the Volta Communitat de Valenciana 2020.

"This was my sixth trip with Gavin and that actually sums it up - I know how well he and Kathryn plan and organise the trips so I keep coming back. The guiding is superb and although there are tough days you always feel supported. The routes and lodgings are first class. Thanks for another great trip" Guest 2023 Tour of Valencia

"This was my second consecutive Tour of Valencia. I’d do it a third time if I could. This is just one of many trips that Gavin and Kathryn organise to extremely high standards. Preparation, shake-down rides, the routes, landscape, hotels and support are the best. Highly recommended." Tim R

"The Siempre team organised a fabulous Valencia cycling trip (Oct 2023). The on-route service, cycle hire , attention to detail on the itinerary, and hotel bookings were great. Gavin is the perfect companion to be cycling, he has a great sense of humour and has the team’s safety at heart all the time. I do hope this is not a trip of a lifetime as I’d like to something similar with the Siempre team soon" Bijal (Slough/London)

"Gavin and Kathryn always make the trips effortless, and have a good local knowledge so you fully trust the recommendations. This was trip number 4 for me, already planning trip number 5!! That says a lot" Guest 2022 Tour of Valencia

"I’ve been on a couple of road cycling trips in the past three years and this one is my favourite from start to finish a great experience one I shall remember for a long time cheers Gav & Kathryn". Roy Whitney, Crowthorne
