About the Event

This 5 day tour is perfect for the cyclist who loves climbing and fantastic scenery.

The start of the trip is based in the spa town of Lanjarón in the Alpujarra on the southern slopes of the Sierra Neveda. From here there will be daily rides to the climbs in the area including Cáñar, Trevélez and Haza del Lino.  The fantastic Hotel Alcadima will be our base for the start of this trip.  The hotel has extensive areas to relax after a ride, with it's terraces, solarium, bar, outside pool and spa with indoor pool.  The hotel is geared up for cyclists with bike friendly facilities.

After 3 nights in Lanjarón, the tour heads to the city of Granada, via the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada.  Accommodation will be in the city in the 4 star Vincci Albayzin.  The following day is our chance to take on the epic Pico Veleta, the highest road in Europe.  Reaching 3,400m the Pico Veleta is like nothing else. It must be on every cyclist's bucket list.  This last ride of the trip will finish back in the city of Granada via a 30km+ descent.  Our base in Granada is perfect to enjoy this vibrant city, take a stroll through the Albayzin and the grounds of the Alhambra. We'll also be looking to round of our final evening in Granada with tapas and a flamenco show in the Sacromonte caves.

Day 1  - 35km 1,000m - Transfer from Granada airport to the  3 star Alcadima Hotel in Lanjarón.  After setting up the bikes and rider briefing, we'll set out to take on our first climb, the 8km climb of  Cáñar with it's many switchbacks and incredible views.

Day 2 - 95km/120km 2,500m/3,200m - Our first big ride of the trip will be a circular route taking in the 34km climb reaching under 1,500m to the town of Trevélez. Although a long climb, the gradients are gentle, allowing you to soak up the Andalusian landscape.  They'll be the option to extend the ride to cover over 3,000m of climbing.

Day 3 - 80km/115km 2,000m/3,200m - Our last full day in this area will give us the opportunity to climb to Haza del Lino at 1,200m.  Although a long climb at 19km the gradient is also gentle with an average of only 5%.  Again there will be the opportunity to extend the route to make this another epic day.   For our last night in Lanjarón we will eat out at the superb Asador Parque Restaurant.

Day 4 - 95km/150km 2,000m/4,000m - Leaving Lanjarón and heading to Granada we'll make our may via the north western slopes of the Sierra Nevada.  We have various options (including a summit option) depending on the weather conditions.

Day 5 - 100km 3,000m - The big one (unless already achieved the previous day).  Time to take on the mighty Pico Veleta.  We'll ride up though the varied landscapes to the moonscape of the Pico Veleta. Followed by a fantastic descent, this promises to be beyond epic. To finish off the trip we will have tapas on the streets of Granada followed by flamenco show.

Day 6 - Transfer back to Granada airport.

Price €969 (twin occupancy - single supplement €299)

Flights are not included.

We can also provide bike hire from our fleet of Ridley Fenix SL's for €120 for the duration of the trip (€180 for DI2, €220 for DI2 and discs).

Get in touch us using the link or drop us an email at info@siempre.cc to request more information about this trip.

*Note, exact itinerary is subject to change.   The support on the Pico Veleta is only to the barrier at 2,600m as cars are not allowed past this point. The surface on the last 5km of the Pico Veleta is varied with lots of sharp gravel in places and you will need to walk some sections if you wish to reach the top. The weather can be very changeable, especially at altitude so we cannot guarantee a summit although we would look to alter the itinerary to maximise the opportunity.

"Excellent trip, well thought out researched and supported. A real must do for those interested in climbing some of Spain’s highest peaks." Mark Pittick.

"A wonderful trip, with great flexibility for riders of all capability, and with enough challenge for all, in a beautiful part of the world." Guest, Andalusian Experience 2019
