The less known, but by no means less impressive, approach to the Port de Tudons from Penaguila is a hidden gem of the Costa Blanca.
Following the narrow black tarmac, stunning vistas reveal themselves on every turn.
3km in, the climb straightens out, the gradient eases and is almost flat in places.
Take the left turn at 6.7km towards the summit. The road is not signposted, but there is usually some faint writing on the road indicating the summit of 'Tudons'.
The gentle gradient of the last 1km reaches the military base of Aitana, closed to the public, but used in the 2016 Vuelta. You've got the choice of turning right for a 20km descent to the coast or left for a 5km decent to the mountain village of Alcoleja.
