Xaló - Xátiva - Macastre - Valencia

About the Event

This is a fully supported, place to place tour over 6 days, 5 nights. Starting in our local town, Xaló and finishing in the city of Valencia.

We have painstakingly researched the province of Valencia finding what we believe are the best cycling roads that the area has to offer and have put together a challenging but rewarding route which is breathtakingly beautiful at every turn.

Enjoy your first two nights in Xaló a village local to us surrounded by the best climbs in the Costa Blanca.  The following two nights further inland include overnight stays in the historic, Moorish town of Xàtiva and in a rural location in Macastre. Then enjoy the opportunity to cycle in to Valencia on a carefully planned quiet route and celebrate the epic journey with a final night in Valencia. The following morning enjoy a ride into the Albufera Nationa park, the home of paella or take a day off to enjoy the wealth of culture the city has to offer before flying home.

Day 1 - 56-75km 1,000-2,000m - Arrive at Casa de Pozo, a beautiful guest house in the maket town of Xaló.  After setting up the bikes we will get out on afternoon ride on the famous Coll de Rates. We will then eat out in one of the many restaurants in the town.

Day 2 - 70-90km 1,000-2,000m - Another stunning bike ride from Xaló with option including more of  the famous climbs in the area including Port de Bernia, Vall de Ebo and more.   Dinner will be in one of the other restaurants in town.

Day 3 - 103km 1,900m -  This route takes us up to Castells de Castells over the Beniaia road down the steep descent to Embalse de Beniarres where would plan to have lunch.  The route then heads through Salem, Beniatjar, passed Embassement de Belius, then the climb to Xàtiva through the town then up towards the castle where we are staying in the 4 star Hotel Mont Sant, a converted monastery on the castle wall. The hotel has a fantastic restaurant where we can choose from tapas to a full gastronomic menu*.

Day 4 - 95km 1,800m -  This stunning  stage of our Tour of Valencia takes us through the national park of Muela de Cortes to the small village of Dos Aguas for lunch. After lunch we head up the 5km Puerto Dos Aguas, one of the most visually spectacular climbs in the whole of the Valencia region.  We'll be staying just outside the small town of Macastre in Finca Mirador where we can relax by the pool before our evening meal on site.  This stage consists of many kilometres of uninterrupted narrow twist mountainous roads featured in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 Volta Communitat de Valenciana with significant climbing.

Day 5 - 115-155km 800-1,900m -  For our ride to Valencia we have a number of options.   The epic option starts by heading west to Requena then through Chera and Chulilla which is a cyclist’s paradise - another narrow twisty road with fantastic lake views. The shorter option starts by heading north past the stunning Cueva de Turche then the orange groves and vinyards of this remote region of inland Valencia.  Both routes then makes their way on the caminos until they reach the cycle path which takes us closer to Valencia, a few more caminos and we’re almost in Valencia where we join one of the Via Verdes to finish the ride into the centre of Spain’s third largest city.  Accommodation is in a four star hotel or above and we will enjoy a meal out in one of the cities best restaurants.

Day 6 - 72-94m 200-500m - Before flying home, take time to enjoy the city or if you prefer we have a ride ready for you; a route south of the city to the rice fields of the Albufera National Park for a paella lunch before the flight home. A nice flat ride at the end of an epic tour. This stage could be extended by heading to the Cullera antennas featured on stage 6 of La Vuelta 2021 and stage 2 of the Volta Communitat de Valenciana 2020.
